1996 – ?
Chris is known for his diversity, and genre bending style. mainly due to buying a whole bunch of weird records and having no idea what he was doing with that crappy pair of belt driven turntables and the worst Behringer mixer money could buy; but also because of an undying love for the music that captures his attention, and how telling a story with that music can make others feel. his only teacher was a Sony Walkman and listening to recordings of how his peers did it. Techno was the sound that took his interest in the mid 90s and into the 2000s.
and then, after stumbling around for a bit in pretty much every other genre on the hunt for ‘that’ sound, he found dubstep. it was 2007, and it was the year everything changed. it was like nothing he’d ever heard; and other people needed to hear it too. fiery passion was ignited. the time had come to get out of the ‘bedroom’.
hitting the ground running, it wasnt long before he came across other bass-crazed maniacs and combined forces to build quite a healthy scene in little ol’ Adelaide. 2008 saw him co-founding Australias first dubstep weekly, ‘Pleasure’ – an intimate space that ended up becoming an institution in itself; attracting and collecting many of the faces that became stalwarts of the scene. hosting and co-hosting countless internationals and all locals parties over the years, 2012 saw him take a much needed hiatus. the music was getting stale and parenthood took priority. it was a short stint but holy cow, what a ride!
not one to give up on his dreams, 2021 saw him re-integrate into a somewhat sparse landscape of what was once a burgeoning vista. unsatisfied with Adelaides lack of enthusiasm for the deep wubs and gnarly basslines,a fire was lit under him once again; and he got back at it where he left off. with only one thing on his mind – reviving the Adelaide dubstep family, with the help of some friends, he has done just that. the man that brought the brostep sound to the (t)ears of Adelaide, infamous for it being not loud enough, the face behind Adelaide Dubstep Revival, and the more recent and now legendary ‘tOASt‘ free park parties – this is counterpart.
